ABSTRACT
Casting practice is only too much familiar with various defects occurring in the fi nal product. One of the most severe and unrecoverable defects is hot tearing, also known as hot cracking or hot shortness. Hot tearing is the formation of an irreversible crack (failure) in the still semisolid casting.
