ABSTRACT

Th e transportation system describes a series of interdependent, interconnected nodes and conduits ensuring movement of people and goods. Unlike traditional views of a node as a terminus, nodes act as gateways and transition points within the system. Conduits provide the means of movement and are defi ned as either fi xed or fl exible. How nodes and conduits are used is largely defi ned by direct or indirect demands for transportation sector (including supporting infrastructure) services.
