ABSTRACT

The examples presented here, while useful, would not t well in other chapters, because they are either too long, or not of great interest to some readers.

Find the dynamic response to a load w0 = 0.15 N/mm, applied as a rectangular impulse over t0 = 0.35 ms. The beam is a cantilever (CF), a slender aluminum rod with a round solid section and with properties specied below. (The units are, as usually, g, mm, and ms.)

L = 100 mm, φ3.18 E = 69,000 MPa, ρ = 0.0027 g/mm3, ν = 0.3, G = 26,540 MPa

A = 7.942 mm2, I = 5.02 mm4, As = 0.5A, m = ρA = 0.02144 g/mm (EI/L3 = 0.34638)

The beam is slender enough to be able to ignore shear deformation.
