ABSTRACT

Network Dimensioning is a process that combines analytical and pragmatic design methodologies to achieve WiMAX deployment that are optimized for high performance, lower costs, and reduced time-to-market. Dimensioning is essentially the process where the WiMAX system capabilities are correlated with the network design objectives and performance indicators to define the most suitable deployment strategy and hence estimate the equipment size (list of materials). Successful dimensioning is based on simple analysis and design principles butmost importantly past deployment experience, especially with regard to accuracy. The first part of this chapter provides a description of the necessary steps to perform dimensioning, while the second part presents advanced approaches and previous experience in the context of deployment strategy. The chapter concludes with open issues to enhance the process of dimensioning.
