ABSTRACT

Mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) is a well-established technique to model and solve a large variety of network planning problems. In this chapter, we show how to derive an MILP formulation for worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) network planning. The model includes as decision variables themajor physical and radio-electrical parameters, namely, base stations locations, emission powers, transmission frequencies, burst profiles, and service areas. An optimum solution to this model assigns suitable values to all parameters to maximize the expected overall profit.
