ABSTRACT

There are literally hundreds upon hundreds of systems that have been conceived, designed, implemented, and deployed in various regions, jurisdictions, and agencies across the United States.1 Each one has served a specifi c purpose, to meet a specifi c need, and was implemented in a specifi c fashion to get the job-at-hand done. Some of these systems are small and simple, serving a single county, while others are much larger and more ambitious, spanning entire states or even being offered nationwide. Regardless of the size of the endeavor, the goal of each of these systems is to improve how law enforcement and intelligence units operate2 by providing timely access to relevant data sets and necessary resources.
