ABSTRACT

The objective of this chapter is to examine the utility of various HRA methods and models. However, the utility of a particular approach is a function of a number of components, not just the absolute value of a method. The selection of a particular method or model depends on the applicability of the method to the given situation, the ability of the PRA/HRA team to apply the method, and the availability of relevant HRA data. For example, if one is undertaking a completely new application, is there any appropriate data that could be used? In this situation, one’s choice might be limited to selecting a method using generic data, even if the source of the data is debatable. Equally, if you are selecting a method to embody many years of operational data, then you are not likely to select a method based upon generic data, because you are trying to capture the essence of the way the plant is being operated.
