ABSTRACT

Overview If.a.Kaizen.team’s.analysis.of.root.causes.was.correctly.done,.then.making.effective. process.changes.should.be.a.straightforward.set.of.activities..These.activities.will. ensure.that.the.correct.things.have.been.changed.and.improvements.are.sustained. over.time..There.are.many.ways.to.describe.the.key.elements.of.an.effective.change. initiative.. Figure.7.1. shows. one. such. description. in. which. several. important. .elements. that. have. been. known. to. influence. an. organization’s. change. effectiveness. are. shown. in. sequential. order.. Several. of. these. variables. were. discussed. in. earlier.chapters.of.this.book..The.balance.will.be.discussed.in.this.and.subsequent. chapters..Figure.7.1.shows.that.in.addition.to.being.used.in.combination,.some.elements.naturally.follow.others..As.an.example,.project.alignment.would.naturally.be. a.prerequisite.for.tool.training.because.different.projects.require.different.combinations.of.tools.and.methods.for.the.analysis.of.the.root.causes.associated.with.the. project’s.problem.statement..Also,.countermeasures.must.follow.an.analysis.of.root. causes..Process. improvement.activities. fail.or.become.diluted.when.one.or.more. of.these.basic.elements.is.missing.or.not.done.efficiently.according.to.its.sequence.. There.are.also.simpler.versions.of.this.concept.in.which.key.elements.are.multiplied. to. indicate. that. they. reinforce. each. other.. As. an. example,. one. major. organization.uses.the.following.relationship.to.express.the.effectiveness.of.change:.cultural. acceptance.×.business.strategy.=.change.effectiveness..But.this.relationship.hides. several.of.the.important.elements.shown.in.Figure.7.1.
