ABSTRACT

Geographic information system (GIS) concepts and technologies are being used extensively in water resources engineering planning and design, and are changing the way these activities are conducted. We are in an age when natural resources are increasingly scarce and the effects of human activity are pervasive. In this situation, the best tools available must be used to characterize the environment, predict impacts, and develop plans to minimize impacts and enhance sustainability. GIS technologies, tools, and procedures have substantial benefits for resource inventories, modeling, and choice communication to involved agencies and concerned citizens.
