ABSTRACT

Due to bending moments and horizontal thrusts transferred from the superstructure, shallow foundations are often subjected to eccentric and inclined loads. Under such circumstances the ultimate bearing capacity theories presented in Chapter 2 need some modification, and this is the subject of discussion in this chapter. The chapter is divided into two major parts. The first part discusses the ultimate bearing capacities of shallow foundations subjected to centric inclined loads, and the second part is devoted to the ultimate bearing capacity under eccentric loading.
