ABSTRACT
Depending on the type of superstructure and the type of loading, a shallow foundation may be subjected to dynamic loading. The dynamic loading may be of various types, such as (a) monotonic loading with varying velocities, (b) earthquake loading, (c) cyclic loading, and (d) transient loading. The ultimate bearing capacity and settlement of shallow foundations subjected to dynamic loading are the topics of discussion of this chapter.
