ABSTRACT

Plants are a diverse group of organisms in the kingdom Plantae that differ from those in the kingdoms Animalia (animals), Fungi, Protista, and Monera (prokaryotes) by possessing chlorophyll for photosynthesis (which converts energy from sunlight into carbohydrate), having a rigid cell wall composed of cellulose (a complex carbohydrate made from glucose, which provides structural support while remains fl exible), and being fi xed in one place (nonmotile). However, plants are similar to other eukaryotes in having a nucleus, plasma membrane, mitochondria, and other organelles.
