ABSTRACT

Overview Oracle Virtual Directory is a lightweight virtual directory service that accesses and audits identity information (who the user is, what roles they belong to, and what privileges they have) data directly from the sources in real-time rather than storing it in a separate repository. It provides a uniform way to access identity information that may be stored in multiple repositories without needing to synchronize information into a central store as required by a metadirectory. Oracle Virtual Directory allows applications to leverage identity data in place, without synchronizing or moving data from their native locations. As a result, applications can be configured much more quickly to handle dynamic operational scenarios and changing joint, coalition, and interagency user populations. The Oracle Virtual Directory provides a single, consolidated directory interface to identity data-regardless of the type of repository it exists in-without needing to synchronize the information into a central repository. A typical virtual directory deployment is highlighted here in Figure 8.1.
