ABSTRACT
In this chapter we introduce the idea of an ideal gas, which is defi ned by a simple equation of state. Such a defi nition has the advantage that all the properties may be calculated mathematically in a closed form without the need to resort to tables. Moreover, quasistatic processes may also be evaluated in a closed form.
