ABSTRACT
The internal combustion engine (ICE) is examined from two viewpoints. The fi rst viewpoint considers the ICE to be a component of a hybrid vehicle. The second viewpoint considers the ICE to be the sole source of torque and power for a conventional vehicle (CV).
