ABSTRACT

Despite the development of increasingly larger devices, many inventors and scientists wanted to reveal the smallest secrets of micro and nano processes. For centuries, only clock makers worked on a diminishing size of devices. In the seventeenth century, the invention of the microscope opened the way to the observation of microbes, plants, and animal cells. In the late

twentieth century, microdevices were technologically re ned. Today, the size of transistors in integrated circuits is 0.18 μm. Transistors measuring 10 nm are already being developed in laboratories.
