ABSTRACT
Nowadays, a variety of methods (lithography, epitaxial growth, colloidal chemistry) allow the fabrication of very small islands of metals or semiconductors, wherein the electron motion is con- ned within nanometer ranges. ese methods are usually called quantum dots (QDs), and were extensively investigated in the last few years (Kastner 1993, Kouwenhoven and Marcus 1998).
