ABSTRACT
Classification, in general, refers to clustering or grouping data items into similar sets. is information is oen useful in the analysis step for any signal/data processing system. Image classication is similar to general data classication, but it may be dierent depending on the application in which it is used. For instance, in a satellite image, it might be required to isolate the elds from roads or plains from localities. is information may be needed for visual inspection for planning purpose only and, hence, it would be sucient to redraw these artifacts in various colors representing each class with a dierent but meaningful color. On the other hand, the same information may be needed by an unmanned airplane to carry out a certain military mission, for which purpose a knowledge of the centers or certain coordinates on these classes would be needed rather than colored representations. Accordingly, the task of image classication becomes more complicated.
