ABSTRACT
Welcome to the field of glycome informatics! This is the first book to cover all known informatics methods pertaining to the study of glycans, or glycobiology. We will begin with an introduction to the field of glycobiology, upon which these methods have been developed. Because it is impossible to introduce the entire field of glycobiology in one chapter, an introduction to the basic knowledge required to understand this book is provided. For more detailed information, readers are referred to a recently published comprehensive guide to the glycosciences by Kamerling et al. (2007).
