ABSTRACT

This book is an introduction to measures of agreement using a Bayesian approach to inference. The subject of agreement began as a separate topic some 45-50 years ago and has developed into a sophisticated area of statistics, both theoretically and methodologically. It has proven to be quite useful in such areas as medicine; the sports of boxing, ice skating, diving, and gymnastics; to many areas of science, including sociology and psychology; and also to law and wine tasting. The major emphasis in agreement studies is to estimate the agreement between several raters (judges, radiologists, observers, pathologists, jury members, boxing judges, etc.). Large differences between raters can be problematic; thus, it is important to study why such differences exist and to take remedial action if necessary.
