ABSTRACT

The previous chapter and Appendix A lay the foundation for the Bayesian approach to agreement. Chapter 1 gives a brief history of the subject, presents a preview of topics to be discussed in future chapters, identifi es the literature sources for the book and, goes into some detail about several examples. The examples included wine tasting in a Parisian setting, where both Californian and French wines were rated by several judges, and an example from a cancer research study, where several radiologists estimate the size of lung cancer lesions. Appendix A introduces the theory necessary to understand the Bayesian methods that will analyze data from agreement studies, and introduces WinBUGS as a platform for Bayesian type computations. Special emphasis was put on techniques to check model adequacy and methods to display information.
