ABSTRACT
Hydrocarbons are the principal components of petroleum and fossil fuel, and their input into the environment can occur by geological process or by anthropogenic sources. The contamination of the environment by petroleum hydrocarbons is a widespread problem (Margesin and Schinner, 1999).
