ABSTRACT

There is no right way to do a wrong thing. Ethics and honesty are two of the most important of all the skills and attributes of leadership. These two attributes are related and cannot be compromised by leaders if they want to be effective. In addition, ethics, integrity, and honesty by leaders contribute to employee loyalty, which as we have discussed leads to customer loyalty. Ethics, integrity, and honesty are key to success: you cannot stretch the truth, or live on the edge of ethics and integrity. You have to set the example for your company and your employees. People are watching you to see how you react/respond to situations. Some authors have written about situational ethics — there is no such thing; there are ethics or there are not. Few things in business are simply black and white — ethics, integrity, and honesty are clearly black and white; there are no half truths or partial ethics.
