ABSTRACT

One of the fastest growing professions in the United States is executive coaching. Based on my observations and discussions with executive coaches, this is really counseling and facilitating. Would you hire a head football coach for your alma mater who never played football? Then why would you hire an executive coach for your supply chain executives who has never been a supply chain executive? Do you hire an executive coach simply because he/she is certified? Certified by whom? What are the criteria for certifying a coach? As a former strength coach, I know the examination process for becoming a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist is intense and detailed. Becoming an APICS Certified in Production and Inventory Management is a very detailed process. Both of these certifications also require a background in the business prior to applying for certification.
