ABSTRACT
Overview Prior to discussing ways to measure and improve performance in Lean IT systems, we need to discuss three basic concepts shown in Figure 2.1. The first concept was discussed in Chapter 1. This discussion included several classic project management methods as well as the IBM® Rational Unified Process(RUP). We will continue to expand on these concepts in subsequent chapters of this book. In this chapter we will discuss Agile Project Management (APM) with scrum and in Chapter 5 we will discuss Lean concepts and applications. The goal will be to arrive at Chapters 7 and 8 with sufficient knowledge of these three concepts to understand the critical components that support the measurement and improvement of Lean systems using information technology (IT).
