ABSTRACT

The procedure of ultracentrifugation makes use of a piece of equipment called an ultracentrifuge, which is a refrigerated, evacuated chamber containing an electrically driven rotor. The kinds of information that can be obtained from an analytical ultracentrifuge include

1) The gross shape of the macromolecules 2) The conformational changes in the macromolecules 3) The size distributions of the macromolecular samples 4) In case of proteins that exist in chemical equilibrium with noncovalent

complexes, the number and subunit stoichiometry of the complexes and equilibrium constant can be studied.
