ABSTRACT
Kinematics is the study of motion. In Continuum Mechanics it has the same meaning as in dynamics or fluid mechanics. It is the basis for most all constitutive theories. Recall from Chapter 1 that a constitutive response, or material model, describes how stress develops according to strain or strain rate. Strain and strain rate are a measures of kinematics.
