ABSTRACT
The first sense of the term report in the Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English is “a written or spoken description of a situation or event, giving people the information they need.” This is precisely what report has come to mean in NLP-with the restriction that it is, as a rule, written information.∗ Report generation (RG) thus stands for the automatic production of written material required by the users. Usually, this material is produced from structured data-numerical time series or a formal content representation; its length may range from one paragraph to several pages.
