ABSTRACT
In 1916, after several years of lobbying, American architect Frank Lloyd Wright won the commission to design the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo. Wright was delighted to win. His career had been in a downturn for several years and he needed the work. On the other hand, he was acutely aware of the many tough challenges he faced.
