Figure 1.2 The dog has already indicated a scent and is turning back toward the fuel cap while localizing the scent. Changes in key behaviors, such as a sudden change in direction or the way the dog’s head and ears are pointed, indicate the dog is detecting a target scent but has not yet located the source. The handler must learn to read the dog’s body language in order to be effective.
