ABSTRACT

In terms of modern science, the answer to the question of whether or not numbers can be employed to substitute for materials or events or changes in materials and events is definitely a yes, without any doubt; and in the past 300-plus years modern science has been in operation in the form of quantities. After reconsidering this question from the angle of predicting the unknown future, it is no longer that natural for us to replace materials or events by numbers. No doubt, if quantities cannot substitute for events, there must be the question of whether or not quantities can be employed to substitute for information. And, for information, people can clearly see the difference between before and after in the order of time. is difference reveals that time is embedded in the changes of materials. Evidently, without any change in materials, the concept of time would become meaningless. It has been an indisputable fact that modern science has not resolved the problem of what time is. At the very basic level, modern science has avoided the fundamental problem of change in materials and events. What is unfortunate is that the existence of this problem of modern science was not realized until after the 1960s.
