ABSTRACT
In looking for electricity generation in the future, we should keep in mind the fundamental restrictions seen today:
The possible eventual end of fossil fuels The inability of the atmosphere to accept large amounts of combustion
products A strong opposition of people to any kind of nuclear power A very small energy current density (large land demand) for solar and wind
power A deciency of oxygen in the atmosphere
The natural question is where should energy come from? The only physical possibilities seem to be geothermal and solar energy. The rst had its own restrictions but it is beyond the scope of this book.
