ABSTRACT
The ability to recognize patterns is an enormous power. Usually, if asked where the sun will rise tomorrow we’ll hardly blink an eye and respond “In the east!” True of course, but what is actually going on here? If we give an answer like that what we are really doing is making a prediction based on a recognized pattern. If we had not recognized the pattern, we would not have been able to make the prediction. And this is in essence the source of the accomplishment of modern science: prediction through the recognition of patterns.
