Traditional MM uses a designed structuring element that does not allow geometric variations during the operation to probe an image. General sweep MM provides a new class of morphological operations that allow one to select varying shapes and orientations of SEs while processing an image. Such a class holds syntactic characteristics similar to algebraic morphology as well as sweep geometric modeling. Traditional morphology is simply a subclass of general sweep morphology.
