ABSTRACT
Groundwater, as opposed to storm water runoff or riparian systems, is a major natural resource and represents more than 95% of all available fresh water in the United States. More than one half of the U.S. population uses groundwater for their drinking water supply, and approximately 75% of major U.S. cities depend on groundwater for their potable water supply. Many rural areas also depend on groundwater for their fresh water supplies.
