ABSTRACT
The subject of hazardous air pollutants/air toxics is a portion of the general field of air pollution just as the subject of hazardous waste is a portion of the general field of solid waste. In order to understand air toxics, therefore, an initial discussion must focus on the generalized field of air pollution. In this section we will consider the general field of air contaminants and then consider the regulations, agencies involved, and specific information on trends in hazardous chemical releases.
