ABSTRACT
As shown in the preceding chapter, the tools of relational statistics can be used to estimate the strength and direction of changes in two variables. But correlation coefficients do not tell us whether one of the variables causes the change in the other or whether the changes in both are due to the effect of some other variable not included in the analysis. We must, therefore, resist the temptation to draw conclusions about causality on the basis of relational statistics.
