ABSTRACT

Determining an adequate definition of the cause for the presence of mold, or microbial contamination, is critical prior to considering mold remediation. There are a significant number of microbial contamination investigative techniques, but the story rarely, if ever, begins or ends with microbial contamination itself. The key question that a microbial investigator or consultant must ask is why the contamination is present and that question nearly always leads to discovery of some type of moisture or water intrusion condition, in the building environment.
