ABSTRACT

Recently we have been observing the generation of unprecedentedly large amounts of genome sequences and high-throughput experimental data. us, it is becoming more and more important to systematically analyze these data in order to perceive and comprehend an individual life as a whole system [1,2]. Over the years, metabolic modeling has progressed rapidly to allow one to qualitatively and quantitatively understand the complex intracellular reaction networks; this enables one to predict the functional behavior of an organism under various genetic and environmental perturbations through simulations of the metabolic model. More recently, various genome-scale metabolic models have been constructed and used for understanding metabolic characteristics and alterations under various conditions [3,4].
