New Product or Service Introduction New products or services in the IT sector can enter the market under different categories. Take, for example, IBM. Some of its products or services are new to the market (example: Open Services for Lifecycle Collaboration, which aims to simplify association across delivery life cycle of software), some are novel to the IT company itself (example: utilization of blade technology in making high-performance computing systems), and some are completely novel and create totally new markets (example: Go Green with IBM Web 2.0 solutions). Some new products are just modified versions of existing products, while some are completely original, as shown in Figure 8.1.
