ABSTRACT

There are various types of above-grade waterproofing. In this chapter, whenever the term waterproofing is used, reference is being made specifically to above-grade waterproofing, not below-grade waterproofing, though the same subcontractor is commonly responsible for both above and below-grade waterproofing work. The responsibility for this waterproofing may be assigned to different subcontractors, depending on a variety of circumstances. The primary types of waterproofing include building paper, roll-applied damp proofing, self-adhered sheet membranes (SASM), fluid applied deck waterproofing, and sheet product deck waterproofing. The duty of the waterproofing subcontractor is to complete all of the waterproofing elements which are not performed by any other subcontractors. The waterproofing subcontractor’s scope of work can be described as being responsible for the project leftovers.
