ABSTRACT
Physics underwent two great revolutions at the turn of the twentieth century, and Albert Einstein was in the middle of both. One, the theory of relativity, developed almost single-handedly by Einstein, changed our conception of space and time, as we saw in the previous two chapters. The other, quantum physics, the physics of the atom, which started with the work of Max Planck and Albert Einstein, changed our understanding of the nature of matter.
