ABSTRACT
Arachnids belong to the phylum Arthropoda, the largest phylum in the animal kingdom. The arthropods contain the spiders, scorpions, insects, ticks, and caterpillars, among others. Some arthropods sting, others bite, while still others discharge a secretion that is toxic. Arthropods are invertebrates, with jointed bodies and legs. The ani mals of the Arachnida class possess appendages, which are bilaterally symmetric and capable of locomotion. The organism is covered by a cuticle and a strengthened exoskeleton (1).
