ABSTRACT

The Digital Principle Picture an ornamental gate topped with spikes, something like Figure 11.1, with its upper outline tracing an elegant curve. But it doesn’t, though, does it? It’s only a row of spikes. All the same, the designer must have given a template of the curve to the craftsman, who would need to make each spike the correct length. Just as the craftsman would have fitted the spikes to the template, so now, looking at the spikes, you can make a fair guess, from the height of the spikes, as to the shape of the original template.
