ABSTRACT

So far we have used Newton’s law of cooling, with some knowledge of convection heat transfer coefficient, to calculate convection heat transfer from a surface. However, convection heat transfer coefficient varies from one flow to another and depends on fluid properties, flow geometry, surface dimensions and roughness, and flow type. The relationship between convection heat transfer coefficient and flow variables are illustrated in this chapter, and specific correlations for calculating convection heat transfer coefficients in common flows will be given in Chapters 10 through 12.
