ABSTRACT

The studies further reveal that reliable and efficient inverters, state and federal tax incentives, and widespread availability of low-cost photovoltaic (PV) or solar panels have revolutionized stand-alone wind power systems. Data compiled by Pacific Gas & Electric Company indicate that the number of stand-alone windbased power systems continues to mushroom at a rate of 29% annually [1]. The utility’s data further indicate that the market for such systems will continue to expand in areas not served currently by commercial utility companies. Aggressive research and development focused on critical components have demonstrated significant improvement in cost, efficiency, and reliability of stand-alone power systems.
