ABSTRACT

Technology systems include all application of technology in the enterprise including but not limited to information, communications, manufacturing, and building technologies. Today’s companies consider technology systems in segments and manage them in different departments. Information technology (IT) has come to represent technologies dealing with the collection, storage, and reporting of data, primarily driven by computers. Communication technologies typically represent telephony and related aspects. Manufacturing technologies imply robotics and automation. Building technologies represent the creation and maintenance of buildings, plants, and transportation structures. Although these technologies share many common and fundamental features, they are designed and managed based on the end use rather than treating them as a system that touches all aspects of an organization.
