ABSTRACT

The broad aim of this chapter was to assimilate and document global perspectives on emerging threats to wildlife populations. Unfortunately, sufficient funding, employer understanding, and domiciliary freedom were not granted for requisite travel, research, and documentation. Thus, expertise in wildlife conservation, wildlife toxicology, and ecotoxicology was sought throughout the planet. The process of identifying and soliciting collaborative input from some of the world’s experts was less daunting than expected, and speaks to the passion with which these esteemed scientists pursue their life’s work, and even more so to their collegiality. Coauthors were selected based on their scientific record, expertise, experience, and, in most cases, where they choose to live and work. The chapter is thus organized geographically, with subsections describing major anthropogenic threats to wildlife populations over large geographic regions. We have attempted to include perspectives on the topic from all corners of the globe, and with few exceptions, have succeeded.
