ABSTRACT

As mentioned previously, soybeans were produced in the first half of the 20th century for animal forage. Similarly, animal feeding, based on the nutritional value of the proteinrich meal, was key to the explosive growth of soybean use in the second half of the century. The poultry industry, which began to modernize in all aspects including animal genetics, production practices, processing and marketing, became the greatest consumer of soybeans. A working partnership with nutritionists, soybean growers, and processors, led to the recognition of the quality and economic value of soy protein in animals diets as well as its utility in human food products.
