ABSTRACT

B6D2F1 female mice were obtained from Harlan Sprague Dawley (Indianapolis, IN). They were housed in standard opaque plastic shoebox mouse cages, and kept under a reversed 12-h light:dark cycle (lights off at 0600 h) at 22 ± 1°C with free access to food (see diets below) and tap water. The mice were 8 wk old at the start of the study and were assigned randomly to one of the three diets with feeding started 2 wk before breeding. The mice were fed three times weekly. Food intake and body weight were monitored for the first 2 wk of feeding. Figure 1 depicts the study design (feeding, breeding, lactation, testing).
